Tuesday 1 December - St. Chad's Organ and St. Mary's Bells

Building of the Day - Tanners Wine Merchant on Wyle Cop
There is actually some blue sky today.  The crows don't like these pointed chimney pots - they prefer the round ones with a flat top edge
It is pretty warm today but everywhere is very wet but this will improve with the little sun while the wind is still quite strong in places at times.

There was a  very good organ concert given by Anthony Pinel at St. Chad's.  The two pieces by J.S. Bach were excellent as was the Prelude and Fugue in C minor by Mendelssohn.  Pieces by Durufle and Jongen, were in the French style and not to our taste.

We found a table at the fish restaurant in the market building - there are only 14 places. One of the daily specials was Cullen Skink, a Scottish cream chowder using smoked haddock, potatoes, bacon and leeks.  It was excellent.

After some grocery shopping I went down to the station for a short while.
This Victorian letter box is outside the station, set in a stone pillar.
Shrewsbury signal box, Shrewsbury Abbey is on the right.
The bellringers at St. Mary's across the street were practicing this evening.  It reminded us of our friend Brian who took us to see the bell ringers at Market Rasen.  Some f thr bells are very heavy and require a lot of strength to pull.  Bell ringing requires not only good coordination but physical strength.  The video is, of course, dark but it gets across the volume and intensity.
